Indianapolis, IN – Phillips 66 and Project Lead The Way announced today $1 million in grant contributions to support the implementation and expansion of PLTW Gateway programs in middle schools across Phillips 66 communities in several states, including California, Illinois, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington.

PLTW Gateway provides career awareness for middle school students in grades 6-8 through an immersive, hands-on STEM curriculum that engages students in solving real-world problems and prepares them with skills they can use in high school and into any career path they choose. Students explore computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

“Middle school is a time of exploration when students are figuring out what they’re passionate about today and how that relates to who they’ll become tomorrow,” said Charles E. Moran, Vice President, Communications and Community Relations for Phillips 66. “PLTW Gateway units empower students to see a range of STEM pathways and possibilities starting in middle school, expanding into high school, and beyond.”

Phillips 66 invests in education equity because literacy and workforce preparedness are the foundation of individual achievement and the economic future. To build a more diversified and equitable workforce in STEM, Phillips 66 seeks to support academic training and education opportunities with a focus on girls and underrepresented groups.

“As part of our important work with millions of students across the U.S., PLTW is proud to partner with Phillips 66. We are thankful for their support in implementing and expanding PLTW Gateway in communities across the country,” said Dr. David Dimmett, PLTW President and CEO. “Partnerships like this help prepare students for in-demand careers while bringing increased relevance and excitement to learning.”

Through this partnership, Phillips 66 is supporting grants available to schools interested in starting and expanding PLTW Gateway programs beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. Middle schools in eligible counties in California, Illinois, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington may apply for grants at pltw.org.
