The financial support of the Kauffman Foundation has been vital in the growth of PLTW in the Kansas City area. Thanks, in part, to matching grants from the foundation totaling $1.2 million, 16 high schools and two middle schools in the Kansas City area have implemented the PLTW curriculum and plans are under way to increase this number to more than 35 high schools and at least 10 middle schools over the next four years. The foundation also supports STEPS Camps and Gateway Academies in Missouri and Kansas in partnership with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation.

Through a five-year, $2 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Wichita State University's College of Engineering is leading an expansion of PLTW programs. The Knight Foundation provides generous support for PLTW across Kansas through grants available to initiate or sustain PLTW programs, provide teacher training, or purchase equipment, software, and supplies required and used in PLTW courses. The Foundation's Club LAUNCH initiative is helping to prepare the workforce of the 21st century. The Knight Foundation works to advance the quality of journalism, support programs that benefit communities, and help innovators and entrepreneurs realize their transformative ideas.

The Waukesha, Wisconsin–based Kern Family Foundation is committed to its mission of preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century through values, education, and innovation. In its five-year history of supporting K–12 STEM initiatives, the foundation has invested $10 million in grant awards. These awards have primarily gone to more than 300 schools in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota as start-up support for their implementation of the PLTW curriculum.

Founded in 1948, the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works with leaders and policymakers in 16 member states to improve pre-K through postsecondary education. High Schools That Work (HSTW), the SREB’s largest school improvement initiative in the country, began in 1987 and is now in 1,300 schools throughout the country, many of which also use PLTW curricula.
