Dear Parents and Students in PLTW Courses: Because the Project Lead The Way program offered in your school has been reviewed and certified by a PLTW National Affiliate College or University, students now have an opportunity to receive college credit and/or recognition from participating colleges and universities throughout the country. These institutions vary somewhat in their requirements for awarding credit to students. Generally, the requirements include a “B” average in the PLTW course and a 70% or higher on the PLTW college credit examination administered in your school. A summary of each affiliate’s requirements appears on the PLTW website on the Parents/Students page. There are only positive reasons for taking the college credit exam (known as Part C) of the end-of-year course assessment, and any student in the course may take it. There is no cost for taking Part C. It provides an opportunity to see how students do on a college examination. Eligible students who complete the school course with a “B” or higher and who receive a passing grade on the test (Parts A and C) may apply for college credit for a course taken in high school. The tuition charge varies with affiliate centers and state requirements. Although each college is different, PLTW has received letters from parents whose sons/daughters have been accepted by colleges/universities because of their success in the challenging PLTW pre-engineering program. Having received college credit adds to the admissions picture for your son or daughter. We invite you to consider this exciting option. Richard Blais, Executive Director Project Lead The Way 10/04 |
