  University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina was chartered as South Carolina College in 1801. Today the University serves the entire state and includes, in addition to the Columbia campus, two four-year campuses and five regional campuses offering primarily two-year programs. Enrollment on all campuses totals 35,000, with 23,000 on the Columbia campus. The University offers more than 300 degree programs. The South Carolina Honors College is a part of the Columbia campus and is designed to offer the academically gifted undergraduate the finest advantages of a small college in the context of a large comprehensive university. A significant number of engineering students are enrolled in the Honors College.

The College of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of South Carolina is a leading research institution in engineering education and economic development in the Southeast. The college is composed of five departments: chemical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, computer science and
engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. All of the engineering programs are ABET accredited. The college embraces the concept of combining an engineering education with the liberal arts to produce well-rounded graduates. The Swearingen Engineering Complex has more than 500,000 square feet of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and laboratory space, making it one of the largest educational facilities in the Southeast.
