South Seattle Community College, founded in 1969, overlooks downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay from its 87-acre wooded campus in a residential West Seattle neighborhood. Its multicultural student population of nearly 14,000 students select from a broad array of college transfer courses and more than 20 professional-technical programs. Student learning is supported by the high-tech Library and Advanced Technology Center and the new 45,000sf Instructional Technology Center.

South Seattle Community College is located in the heart of a technology and industrial corridor serving a broad base of engineering and technology companies including partnerships with the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers, Manufacturing Industrial Council, Manufacturing Technology Advisory Group and Boeing. 35% of all the state’s apprenticeship training is done by South Seattle CC at its Duwamish Campus.

Seattle University, located within steps of Seattle's downtown core, was founded in 1891, the Northwest's largest and most diverse independent university, with a student population of more than 6,000. The 48 acre campus houses eight schools including the College Science and Engineering. Seattle University provides distinctive learning, service and career opportunities for students. To balance the rigorous demands of the curriculum, students take advantage of the abundant cultural and recreational opportunities afforded by its location within a dynamic global city and natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest. Ranked consistently among the 10 best universities in the West by U.S. News and World Report, and fifth for its quality of teaching, Seattle University has more than 50,000 alumni who reside in 94 nations.

South Seattle Community College and Seattle University are part of the Washington State Coalition for Engineering Education (WASCEE), a consortium of two and four year colleges and universities, business, industry and labor who have joined together to provide state leadership in K16 engineering education.

PLTW Summer Training Institute

Summer Training Information Will Be Available Soon


College Credit For Summer Training:

  • Graduate credit, professional development credit, clock hours and/or continuing education units will be available to students and instructors.

College Credit For High School Students:
  • The Seattle Community Colleges have Tech Prep agreements with school districts which allow students who are taking eligible PLTW courses in high school to make application for Tech Prep credit with the district colleges. To receive Tech Prep credit, students must achieve a grade of “B” or better in PLTW courses and achieve a minimum of 80% of the PLTW stated learning outcomes/competencies. Granted credit may range from 2-19 credits depending on the PLTW courses and the SCCD campus. Additional two and four year colleges/universities in Washington are working on establishing credit for PLTW courses. Students completing PLTW courses and meeting minimum standards may also seek college credit through the Rochester Institute for Technology.
