We are always excited to welcome new districts to PLTW's nationwide network. We look forward to helping you build and grow your programs. This page walks you through the first steps to implement a PLTW program in a district that is new to the PLTW network.
Select key district and school contacts
The District Administrator is the main point-of-contact between PLTW and the entire district for all school implementations. This individual:
- Manages contracts
- Adds new schools and programs
- Organizes payment of the participation fee
- Updates the district’s profile page
- Reviews agreements and program requirements yearly
- Adds/edits district-level personnel information
- Accesses myPLTW based on permissions for data purposes
School Administrators are the main points-of-contact between the school and PLTW. A school’s principal can choose to select a School Administrator, to whom PLTW school-level implementation duties can be delegated. This individual:
- Maintains the school’s profile page
- Reviews program requirements yearly
- Accesses myPLTW based on permissions for data purposes (student rostering and End of Course Assessments)
Register your school district through the online registration tool
To save time, please review the list of information needed to complete registration. Once you have collected the information, use our online registration tool for new school districts. Note that you will not be able to save the form once you start it; you must fill it out completely in one sitting.
Upon completion of the online registration form, the District Administrator receives an email with the PLTW Agreement and Program Requirements attached. View a sample PLTW Agreement and the accompanying PLTW Program Requirements.
Review and sign the PLTW Agreement
Review the agreement with your school board, superintendent, and legal department to make sure all parties are fully aware of district and school responsibilities. After the authorized signatures have been obtained, scan and email the original signed document to our School Support Team.
After PLTW receives and processes the signed agreement, PLTW will provide District and School Administrators login credentials that allow them to register teachers in the database. However, we recommend that districts return the agreement as soon as possible, so that teachers can register to begin professional development.
Select PLTW teachers
PLTW teachers have a variety of backgrounds and experiences and share a few critical characteristics: they are excited to transform their classrooms, eager to learn and employ project-based learning, and passionate about preparing students with the skills to succeed in post-secondary education and beyond. These teachers also meet the basic requirements outlined in PLTW’s Program Requirements document.
Enroll in professional development opportunities
After teachers gain access to PLTW's Extranet, they can log in to embark on PLTW's rigorous and engaging three-phased teacher training: Readiness, Core, and Ongoing Training. Teachers will register for the appropriate Core Training session through the Extranet. For more information on professional development by program, visit Our Programs.
Purchase equipment and software
Review the PLTW Purchasing Manual and supporting resources to order items for your PLTW courses. To ensure your class or lab is fully equipped before the new school year, start the ordering process in early spring prior to implementation.
