PLTW Announces New Community College Associates Program

Project Lead The Way announces its new Community College Associates program for community colleges interested in offering PLTW’s Pathway to Engineering courses.

Under the new agreement, PLTW Associate Community Colleges agree to offer a minimum of five (5) courses, each worth three credits, to students enrolled in the college program. This provides an opportunity for students who did not enroll in or take all PLTW courses in high school to take them in the community college and to receive college credit there.

To meet the same quality standards in training, curriculum, and software, Associate faculty will be trained at a Summer Institute and participate in the ongoing professional development program (Virtual Academy), will teach the identical curriculum and administer the same end-of-year assessments, and will use the latest software as all high schools in the PLTW Network.

Niel Tebbano, Vice President of Operations, indicated that the members of the Board of Directors continue to demonstrate their commitment to encouraging more students in high schools and in higher education to address the nation’s shortage of engineers through this new affiliate program.

“We believe the Community College Associate program opens up a number of opportunities or options for students who take some or all of our courses and who immediately enter the job market after graduation from the community college or who go on to the university to complete a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or engineering technology,” Tebbano concluded.
