Activities - Project - Problem - Based Learning:
A Modality of Teaching and Learning

One of the most effective ways to achieve rigor and relevance in today’s schools is through the use of activities-based learning, project-based learning, and problem-based learning, the focus of the Project Lead The Way® (PLTW) pre-engineering middle and high school program.

Schools that practice these modalities experience an increase in student motivation, an increase in cooperative learning skills and higher-order thinking, and an improvement in student achievement. The blending of APPB-learning is not simply an engaging alternative teaching method; it is a deliberate strategy to achieve high levels of rigor and relevance.

In Activities - Project - Problem - Based Learning: A Modality of Teaching and Learning, Project Lead The Way presents a comprehensive overview of the levels of learning modalities in its curriculum. Through clear explanations and examples from PLTW courses, APPB-Learning demonstrates to educators, students and parents why PLTW is the premier pre-engineering program in the nation. PLTW’s hands-on learning approach increases the degree of rigor, relevance and independent discovery students experience in Pathway to Engineering, the high school program, and in Gateway To Technology, the middle school program.
