| What role might government play in the PLTW program? |
|
Government and PLTW share a core of interests which unite us in meeting our country's educational needs. This core includes the following. Each state has developed its own curriculum; PLTW's challenging courses reflect national standards in math, science, and technology which are consistent with all state curricula. Each state has its own system of sharing information with its schools and communities; PLTW has established its own comprehensive website for use by school officials, school counselors, parents and students, teachers, colleges, business, and government to provide the latest information on our programs. PLTW also provides personal contacts with officials of government and of the educational community. Government is focused on the importance of a system to check the effectiveness of its programs. PLTW's commitment to meeting its mission of increasing the number and quality of engineers and engineering technologists in our country includes an independent review of its programs by Hezel Associates and its own review of each course every other year. We invite government officials to become familiar with our program, to inform its schools of the PLTW option, to consider providing start-up, equipment and software costs to schools which are interested in PLTW, to recognize the success of individual schools and students who have excelled in the program, and to spotlight the unique partnership between industry and schools in meeting a state and national need. |
