  What is the role of business/industry in PLTW?

One of the commitments schools make in becoming part of the PLTW Network is forming the Partnership Team (PT) composed of mentors/coaches/advisors from business/industry, colleges, and the community. The PT meets several times a year and assists the teachers in the program to solve operational problems with the curriculum.

Some examples include:

  • Understanding and applying more depth in a unit of study in the course;
  • Arranging field trips to related business/industry for students;
  • Serving as mentors for students involved in the Engineering Design and Development (see the previous question on Internships)
  • Or any other project that teachers identify as a need to improve the program.

This arrangement has proven most productive because teachers in the program identify their needs which enhances students' experience in their classes.
