Steps to a Successful Project Lead The Way® Implementation for the 2010-11 School Year

2010-11 New Program Online Registration will open September 2009 and will close on March 1, 2010. New school districts and existing school districts that are adding new schools or new programs must register during this period.

  • Select a District Delegate: As part of the online registration process, a School District Delegate must be identified. This person will be the liaison between PLTW and the entire district and will receive all communication from PLTW. The Delegate will also be responsible for keeping the district data up-to-date and accurate. Someone with good knowledge of the PLTW® program, such as a school administrator responsible for the management of the program, would make a good Delegate.
  • Complete the Online Registration: Visit the Register Today page and complete the registration forms for the school district and schools that will be implementing the PLTW® program for 2010-11.
  • Return the Signed School District Agreement(s): Upon successful online registration, an email will be sent to the District Delegate with the Engineering and/or Biomedical Sciences School District Agreement. The agreement(s) are to be signed by the superintendent, approved by the school board, and returned to PLTW by May 1, 2010.
  • Complete Online Teacher Registration: Once the signed school district agreement has been returned to PLTW, teachers who will be instructing the PLTW® program must register with PLTW. The District Delegate will receive instructions on how to assist teachers with the registration process once the agreement has been returned.
  • Teacher Registration for Summer Training Institute (STI): Registered PLTW teachers will be able to register for an STI at one of the PLTW Affiliate Universities ( PLTW Biomedical Sciences Affiliate Universities ) and ( PLTW Engineering Affiliate Universities ) once the signed school district agreement has been returned and the teacher registration has been completed. Registration for the STI courses will open on March 15, 2010 and can be accessed through the PLTW® Teacher Console. All teachers are required to take a pre-assessment for each PLTW® course they plan to attend during the summer. Once successfully completed with a score of 75% or better, teachers will be able to register for training.
  • Return Signed Software Lease Agreement: The District Delegate will receive an email with the Software Lease Agreement which must be returned to PLTW. The Autodesk software must be purchased from an authorized Autodesk reseller. For course software purchased through PLTW, the purchase order must be faxed or mailed to PLTW by July 15, 2010.
  • Purchase Supplies and Equipment: Program supplies and equipment may be purchased with the most updated PLTW® Purchasing Manual
( Engineering Purchasing Manual ) and ( Biomedical Sciences Purchasing Manual ). The use of the Purchasing Manual is optional – schools and districts may purchase supplies and equipment from other vendors as long as such equipment has specifications that meet or exceed the PLTW® program specifications.
  • School Counselor Training: Per the School District Agreement, a minimum of one school counselor must be sent to a Counselor Conference each year. This is necessary in order for your school to become certified, thus leading to college credit opportunities for students. Counselors are not required to attend a conference before the fall of the first year; however, it is beneficial to the school and students if the counselors attend no later than the first year of PLTW® implementation.
