Seattle
University
Seattle University, the largest and most diverse
independent university in the Pacific Northwest,
is committed to academic excellence through teaching,
strengthened by active scholarship, small class
sizes, and personal attention. Consistently listed
among the top 10 best comprehensive universities
in the western United States by U.S. News and
World Report, SU has more than 7,000 undergraduate
and graduate students enrolled within its eight
schools and colleges. Founded in 1891, SU is one
of the 28 Jesuit Catholic universities in the United
States, and draws upon the Jesuit educational philosophy
to develop critical thinkers and compassionate leaders
able to promote a more just and humane world.
The College of Science and Engineering is a partnership
of basic sciences, mathematics and their applications,
where students major in one of the basic science
disciplines or one of the highly rated engineering
departments - civil and environmental engineering,
mechanical engineering, or computer and electrical
engineering. Local companies such as Boeing,
Microsoft, Kenworth, AT&T, Cisco present students
with real problems needing real solutions. Seattle
University's Project Center organizes students around
technical challenges, and students present their
work to sponsoring companies at an annual conference.
These same business and community members provide
mentorship and assist students in developing leadership
and communication skills, making Seattle University
unique among private universities in the northwest.
