West Virginia University

Nestled in the hills of Morgantown, West Virginia, a community of approximately 50,000 located only 75 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA, West Virginia University is a public, land grant institution, founded in 1867. WVU boasts a diverse student population; our fall 2005 enrollment was 26,051, with students from all 55 West Virginia counties, all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 89 other nations. Forty one percent of the students came from outside West Virginia. The university is composed of 15 colleges and schools, offering a total of 178 degree programs.

The WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources has grown an impressive 60 percent over the past five years, with over 2,000 undergraduate students and over 650 graduate students exploring academic programs in: Aerospace Engineering, Biometrics Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene*, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health*, Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Safety Management* and Software Engineering*. (*graduate programs only)

The freshman year academic experience is a common year experience with students moving to their academic program in the sophomore year. The College provides its students many and varied co-op, internship, study abroad and service learning opportunities.

The University has been designated Doctoral Research-Extensive by the Carnegie Foundation.
WVU became a PLTW Affiliate in 2006.
