Founded in 1855, Penn State University has evolved into a world class learning community. The University serves the state and the nation in three principal ways: through instruction, research, and public service. Twenty-four Penn State locations stretch from one end of the commonwealth to the other and have a total enrollment of over 80,000 students making it one of the 10 largest universities in the country.

Penn State's engineering and engineering technology programs offer an integrated and professionally oriented curriculum. The programs are focused on developing engineering graduates who are solidly grounded and technically broad in perspective and capabilities, effective in group operations and communication, versatile in their approach to problem solving and aware of the world.

The Penn State Berks campus located in Reading, PA became an Affiliate University for PLTW in 2002. The Berks campus offers 10 baccalaureate degree programs including Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology and 8 associate degrees including Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Penn State's first Summer Training Institute was held in 2003 at the Berks campus located in Reading, PA.

College Credit For Summer Training
Teachers may receive Penn State Graduate Credit for any courses offered at the Penn State PLTW Summer Training Institute by meeting the graduate course requirements.

College Credit For High School Students
Secondary school students in Pennsylvania from PLTW-certified schools may apply for Pennsylvania State University college credit for three PLTW courses (IED 4 credits, POE 1 credit, & DE 4 credits). Penn State requires students to receive at least an 85 percent average in the PLTW course, score 70 or above on the end of year college credit exam, and meet academic eligibility requirements for a two-year engineering technology major (Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology).
