University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky, with an enrollment of more than 26,000 students, is nestled in the heart of the famed Bluegrass region of Kentucky. The average ACT score for UK’s first-year students is four points above the national average. UK students compete successfully for the most prestigious scholarships and awards, such as the Fulbright, Truman, Goldwater and Marshall. The UK College of Engineering offers majors in these engineering disciplines: biosystems and agricultural, chemical, civil, materials, mechanical, mining, and electrical and computer engineering, as well as computer science. Since the early 1990s, more than $100 million has been invested in state-of-the-art engineering facilities.
Among current and emeriti faculty in engineering and computer science, one is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, more than 20 have received the coveted Presidential Young Investigator or CAREER Development Award from the National Science Foundation, and more than 30 are fellows in one or more professional societies. The College’s 27 engineering student organizations have earned national recognition as outstanding student chapters and in technical competitions. Nationally, more than 900 engineering alumni serve as presidents, CEOs, vice presidents, owners or partners in their corporations. Two UK graduates were among 76 new members elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2006. Five UK graduates are now members of NAE.
