Calculating the Costs of the PLTW® Engineering Program

The following is a breakdown of equipment and materials costs for each of the PLTW® courses based on estimates. These estimates are based on several assumptions that may not be true for your school:

  • Furniture costs are based on a "bare walls" lab
  • The prices are based on 26 students per class
  • Computers are included in the equipment cost column
  • Consumable prices are based on class sizes of 26 and must be multiplied by the number of sections taught
  • Resource materials, such as textbooks, laboratory manuals, instruction software, etc., are not included in the below prices
  • All Fischertechnik items are included under the equipment costs

PLTW® curricula are provided free to high schools and middle schools. Certain hardware, software, and professional development programs are required to put the program into operation.

Please visit the PLTW® Engineering Purchasing Manual for specific information.

The exact cost of launching a PLTW® program at your school depends on many variables, including which classes are offered and how many students are enrolled. Once you have all the materials necessary, and you have trained your staff, you can launch the Project Lead The Way® program in your school.
