Missouri University of Science and Technology

Missouri's Premier Technological University

University of Missouri-RollaThe Missouri University of Science and Technology, founded in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines (MSM), was the first technological university west of the Mississippi and one of the first in the United States. For over 130 years, we've been one of the nation's premier universities for science, technology, and, of course, engineering. In 1964, MSM became known as the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and now awards undergraduate and graduate degrees in 35 fields of engineering, science, humanities, and social sciences.

Biological Sciences at Missouri S&T (http://biosci.mst.edu/) is a thriving academic community comprised of 153 undergraduate majors, 16 graduate students, 10 faculty members, and 20 staff members. BioSci at Missouri S&T students enjoy personal attention, experiential learning, undergraduate research experience (nearly all students), professional success, and exposure/involvement in faculty research programs of international importance.  Examples are the S&T cDNA Resource Center (www.cdna.org), the largest collection of clones for human signaling proteins, MorphologyNet (www.morphologynet.org), a preeminent library of 3D digital reconstructions of animal morphology, and Amphibian Anatomical Oncology (www.amphibanet.org), a virtual organization of researchers from around the globe.

One third of Missouri S&T biological science students enter health careers (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy), one third pursue advanced research training, and 10% become secondary science teachers; most of our other graduates secure employment in the biotechnology, environmental management, laboratory testing or pharmaceutical industries.

The Missouri University of Science and Technology became a PLTW National Affiliate Training Center in 2004.
