Earn College Credit with Project Lead The Way

Exemplary Student Recognition Program

Students who excel in their PLTW courses can apply for transcripted college credit for their work.

Students may receive college credit for:

  • Introduction to Engineering Design
  • Principles of Engineering
  • Digital Electronics
  • Computer Integrated Manufacturing
  • Civil Engineering and Architecture

Note: Not all national affiliates offer credit in each course. Please see each National Affiliate's page or the Recognition and College Credit for PLTW Engineering Students section for details.

Criteria for Receiving College Credit

Students in schools that have become PLTW certified high schools may receive recognition as exemplary students and earn college credit if they:

  • Receive a grade of 85 or higher in each PLTW course
  • Have achieved a grade of 70 or higher on the college credit examinations
  • Have completed a portfolio for each qualifying PLTW course
  • Have paid the $200 tuition fee for each qualifying course

For example:

A student from a PLTW-certified school can apply at a national affiliate for college credit for his or her Pathway To Engineering courses.

The course is then listed on the student’s college transcript as if the student had taken it at that college or university. If the student then goes on to enroll at that affiliate school, the credited courses will replace some requirements in the college curriculum for majors such as computer science or mechanical engineering.
